Overview of Project
I will be teaching Assignment 3 which is a Sense of Place. Sense of Place, is a fundamental element to photography. Itís a way to express what the artist may see and how to interpret this to the viewer. Even in the beginning of photography, photographers went around the world to document what a place was, itís the closest you can get to reality.
They need to develop film, contact sheet, and 3 prints dry mounted, the prints are expected to be printed with good quality.
Essential Question(s)
Wanting to enhance their understanding of photography, in this class they are learning the basic elements to this.
Iíve done a sense of place photography projects in the past, so I am excited to do this.
Learning good quality printing for black and white photography.
Learn about the sense of a place through a photograph, whether that is the space or people. Choosing 3 photos to bring about the place in a dramatic, unique way for the viewer and photographer.
On the assignment sheet also- Unique lighting, camera angles, symbolism, composition
Students will:
Explore their sense of place in the world through three black and white photographs from both the artists and the viewers vantage point
Students will present their photographs in a professional way
Students will demonstrate and understanding of quality b/w photography through selection, printing and presentation
Students will use lighting, camera angles, symbolism and composition to create quality photographs focusing on ěSense of Placeî

Assignment #3: Sense of Place
Develop film.
Make a contact sheet
Select and print three shots 5" X 7" that best describe the location when placed together.
Concentrate on proper printing techniques (correct exposure, contrast filters, dodging, burning).
Dry mount the three photographs on 11" X 14" museum boards.
Key Knowledge and Applications
Shoot one roll of 24 exposure Tri-X 35 mm film of a selected location. The documentation of the selected space or environment should include a variety of views to visually describe aspects of the space: the mood, social importance, time, historical context, physical space, or human relationship.
