Overview of Project

Worksheet to design possible planet ideas and intentions. Students will create a 3-dimensional artwork from newspaper, glue and balloons.

Essential Question(s)

What makes up a planet? Why are they different and what can we learn from them visually and scientifically?

Prior Knowledge

Morning activity. Day one - 2 hours to complete worksheet and design planet. Day two- paint planets.

Examples of student or artist work

For information there will be a previous review and books on space as well as images.

Assessment

The students will demonstrate an understanding of this project by answering and asking questions, sculpting techniques used to create the project and painting techniques.

Materials

* Round balloons. * Cardboard pieces * Newspaper * Glue * Wallpaper paste & water * Containers for the wallpaper paste * Water-based paint. * Paintbrushes, water, water containers and a newspaper covered work area.

Procedures

1.Presentation of project and worksheet 2.Demonsration of materials- hands on presentation of paper mache. 3. Create, sculpt and experiment. Experiment with paint. 4. Discuss ideas, thoughts, intentions, problems, likes, dislikes, and overall product.

Teacher Reflection

Anticipated problems are not enough time, too much glue, not enough glue being used. The children not grasping the projects intent. Throwing glue. This lesson will fit into the curriculum by showing how there is a science to almost every art and art can be applied to every subject. The students work will be shared by learning with the community by demonstrating that a person is capable of great things by just creating and having a great imagination. The teacher will receive feedback on methodology from class discussion and informative analysis sheets.
