Nicolle Brichacek is a senior at the College of Visual Arts in Saint Paul, Minnesota. She is majoring in General Fine Arts which allows her to pursue the many different options that art has to offer. She enjoys being with people, but most importantly likes to share knowledge of life and art. Nicolle is discouraged when schools drop their art programs due to lack of funding. She believes that art programs are essential to creativity and imagination, and are a large part of a studentís expression. Art allows the young to voice their opinions when they cannot find the words. "My goal in the Teaching Artists Program is to gain a better knowledge of how children learn and communicate, so that I can help open the doors to a better future. "

Gretchen Doebler is a junior at the College of Visual Arts in Saint Paul majoring in Drawing and Painting.  She is excited to be apart of the Teaching Artist Program at her college.  Art, being creative, and working with children are Gretchen's passions.  She has volunteered as a Special Olympics coach and partner for six years and she's looking forward to again be able to not only work with children using creativity as a unique teaching tool but alsoto learn from them as well. Gretchen believes "sometimes we forget just how imaginative children are and how inspiring there unique perspectives in everyday life can be. "

Alissa Koch is a junior at the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul working towards a degree in Photography. Even though much of her time is devoted to photography, she has developed an affection for the many other fine arts, especially painting. She is excited to be a part of the Teaching Artist Program, where she can help educate others with the knowledge and love that she has acquired for the visual arts. "My academic background has given me the confidence necessary to allow me to achieve my ultimate goal of becoming a teacher of the arts."

Amanda Olson is a senior at the College of Visual Arts, majoring in Drawing and Painting. She has always been interested all types of art but has love of drawing and painting. She enjoys being outdoors, reading, hanging out with friends and family, learning new things and creating art. Amanda has always known she wanted to teach. "The arts are important to me because I want to give children and teens the chance to discover a love for art, whether it is actually producing art or having an appreciation for art."

Jenna Schuldt was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Raised by two hard working mid-westerners, she is the youngest of three children. Growing up her father built all the Schuldt houses. Living in the country most of her childhood instilled a natural curiosity for city life. Jenna moved to Saint Paul when she began classes at the College of Visual Arts. She has always known she wanted to be an artist. Because of the little artistic support she felt growing up, Jenna has a strong desire to introduce artistic skills and culture to younger children,

Jenna is the first in her immediate family to enter college. The idea of college was strange to her family at first, especially art college. It has been her person lifetime goal to break stereotypes and traditions regarding college, art and rural women. In some ways this has set her apart from my family, but she has a strong community of friends, fellow artists and co-workers in the Twin Cities. "As I get closer to graduation I’m beginning to explore and understand what is means to be working artist. I draw inspiration from education, the continuous cycle of learning and teaching."

Margit Strand currently attends the College of Visual arts as a Drawing and Painting major. She decided to go into the Teaching Artist Program for two reasons. First, she has had a number of wonderful teachers throughout her schooling that have inspired her to teach. Second, while taking a year off from college she volunteered to teach in three countries; India, Russia and Africa where she was able to teach subjects ranging from basic English to arts and crafts. "I look forward to the year to come in the Teaching Artist Program and I anticipate all of the experience and learning that will go along with it!!!"

Jake Sullivan is enrolled full-time at College of Visual Arts, and will be receiving a BFA in Illustration from CVA in 2009. Interested in paint and ink as a medium, he enjoys creating illustrations that involve figurative subject matter with unrealistic proportion. He is interested in learning the art of teaching and interacting with younger students who have had no formal teaching in art. He hopes to accomplish work within the community, and working with kids to engage with the arts.
