Susan Ahlfs is a senior drawing major at College of Visual Arts. She has worked with children briefly for church functions, but would really like to expand on various teaching skills and really focus on witnessing people grow through art. She is interested in working with museums and galleries and in teaching and providing information to people of all ages about the powers of art that can be provided to a community and to an individual. As an artist, Susan focuses on using non-traditional materials to make social comments, and wishes to encourage people the freedom of expression that can happen with any media.

Jeremy Anderson, a junior at the College of Visual Arts, is an Illustration major with a love for comic books, children’s books, and all kinds of adventures. He has a lot of excitement to teach and learn with kids, and has already gained some experience helping his mom create and illustrate fun assignments in her Creative Writing classes. While he originally started college as an Art Education major at the University of Wisconsin River Falls, he has now turned his focus to a more hands on approach to the materials kids use to learn in the great field of art. After graduation, Jeremy plans to write and illustrate his own children’s books and comic books, and has started on a few of his own already.

Emily Callaghan is currently a senior at the College of Visual Arts working on getting her BFA in photography. She has primarily worked with kids of many ages through baby-sitting. In high school she volunteered at homeless shelters, which included doing various types of activities to help the kids learn and have fun while doing so. She realized through these volunteer experiences that she one day would love to be able to show children the things she has learned and benefit from their happiness.

Courtney Eichert is a junior at the College of Visual Arts in Saint Paul, working towards a BFA in Printmaking. Her first teaching experience was at the age of 5 when she helped her younger cousin learn to read (which was also a lesson to her in patience). She continues to mentor those younger or less experienced than her in the Peer Mentorship program at CVA. After receiving her BFA, Courtney plans to pursue an MFA and teach at the college level. She hopes to continue sharing in the wisdom of those younger than her throughout her professional practice.

Adam Fuchs is a senior graphic design major at the College of Visual Arts. Aside from design studies, Adam also works as the Digital Tutor for CVA as well as assisting incoming Foundation students as a peer mentor. Adam also has experience in assisting adult education students as a GED tutor. Adam firmly believes that though a creative education and experience in the arts, we learn to question the world around us and to view things in valuable new ways. Having had influential mentors and teachers throughout the years, Adam hopes to give back to the community by helping others find their creative curiosity.

Carlen Goldhorn is a Junior at the College of Visual Arts she is working towards achieving her BFA in painting. She is inspired by the creative minds of young students and would love to show them new ways to express themselves. Carlen would also enjoy working with the elderly and disabled. She looks forward to sharing her knowledge of the arts with students of all ages and backgrounds. After her graduation at the College of Visual Arts, Carlen plans on furthering her teaching education and eventually plans on teaching elementary art classes. She believes there is no limit to what a mind can create and is looking forward to what these experiences could teach her.

Madeline Harr, also known as Maddie is currently studying at the College of Visual Arts as an aspiring photography major. She is from a small town in Minnesota called Jordan but attended Prior Lake High School. Aside from Photography Maddie enjoys exploring multiple mediums of art and exploring different ways of visually executing ideas. Over the summers she has had multiple nanny jobs and enjoys involving and inspiring her kids in art and craft projects. Maddie has an outgoing, open and hands on personality which make her an easy-to-approach person. Maddie wishes to help others in any way that she can, and open the gateway to understanding that art can provide for everyone. Maddie wishes to become a teaching artist because she understands that creativity is important to society

Bill Lindau is a senior at the College of Visual Arts, wrapping up his BFA in fine art with a concentration in drawing and painting. He has an over active imagination, which has honed itself into a love of art and fuels his work. Bill first became interested in teaching after high school. During those years, he faced some difficult personal times, but thanks to a few of his teachers, (art teachers in particular), he found the strength he needed to turn things around. Since then, Bill hopes to become a teacher and help children, teens, and adults find their strengths through all the many types of learning that can occur in the art room. “Art does not simply teach people how to see objects, but how to see the world and what we can do to make it better.”

Ashley Masog is a senior at the College of Visual Arts, pursuing her BFA in illustration. On top of her studies, Ashley works through the offices of Student Life and Admissions as both a Peer Mentor and a Student Ambassador. She also works each spring with the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) to help teach workshops in coordination with the MSHSL Visual Arts Competition, held at the Perpich Center for Arts Education. It is through working with the MSHSL that Ashley realized she has a greater interest in teaching. In the near future, she hopes to combine this newfound interest with her passion for illustration to help inspire children of all ages to create and explore the art world."

Chuck Miller is a student the College of Visual Arts pursuing an emphasis in Fine Arts Sculpture. His experience with art education involves care and crafts with the youngest (and most delightful) of children at his local church. He also has experience as a mentor for freshman at CVA and has a job as a photo assistant helping students with the technical side of digital and manual photography. He has a strong interest in working in the community in a variety of ways including possibly third world missions working to create sustainable living. He is also interested in working in his immediate community with art education.

Keniesha Pouncy is a third year student at the College of Visual Arts, and is an
aspiring artist with a focus on Photography. Keniesha’s background includes, being a
Sunday school teacher for six years at her family’s church, Youth Ministry for three
years, as well as being an Admissions Counselor for her church’s Internship. With a
heart for youth and watching youth succeed in their education, she believes she can
help make a difference; with ears, always ready to hear new ideas in how to keep
children engaged and ready to learn. She also believes in focusing on the strengths
of those in which she educates. She believes,
“Focusing on the strengths of those in which we educate, gets their minds off of their
weaknesses. By focusing on strengths, it is only a matter of time, before their weaknesses
are turned into strengths.”
Keniesha is excited to get her feet wet in the field of education and help impact the
world around her.

Chloe Russell is a Junior at the College of Visual Arts working on her BFA in illustration. She has an interest in teaching all age groups varying from k-12 and special needs to the elderly and memory care. For the past year, she has worked as a personal care assistant with the responsibility of a dementia-affected elderly woman. This experience has helped shape her understanding of the therapeutic effect of art and music on the lives of others. Chloe would like to continue this exploration as a practicing artist

Jenny Stice is a third year Sculpture major at the College of Visual Arts focusing on creating sculptures made from fabric and felted wool. While working on her degree in Fine Arts she is also continuing her pursuit of becoming a teaching artist. She has taught Arts & Crafts at YMCA Camp St. Croix for the past two summers, while teaching with this program she has experienced working with a variety of ages, from 6-17. She has also worked closely with several specialty camps which Camp St. Croix is privileged to host. Camp OZ is a camp created by the Epilepsy Foundation and is a camp attended by children and teens with epilepsy. Camp Avanti is a specialty camp for children with autism. In the future she would like to bring the wondrous joys of art to younger students.
